Dnipropetrovsk State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport (DSIPCaS) was founded in 1980 on the ground of USSR and Ukraine Board of Ministers regulations. The base for its creation was Dnipropetrovsk Technical School and Pedagogical Faculty of Kyiv State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport.
      The great role in institute foundation belongs to the Head of Regional Sport Committee Yu.S. Burmak and to the Professor, Academician, Honoured Coach of Ukraine V.P. Shapovalov. The major contribution to the institute development belongs to the Honoured Master of Sports, Academician, Professor Savchenko V.G, who was its rector from 1997 to 2007. PhD Professor Shamardin V.M. became the head of the Institute in 2007. The institute is an educational establishment of the III level of accreditation subordinated to Ministry of Family and Youth Affairs and Sport, and also Ministry of Education.       The teaching staff of the institute accounts 114 persons, among them 12 Doctors of Philosophy and Professors, 31 Candidates of Science, Associate Professors, 13 Honoured Coaches of Ukraine, 2 Honoured Masters of Sports, 2 International Masters of Sport, 28 Masters of Sport and 18 judges of international category in sports.
      About 1800 students study at the faculties of DSIPCaS. For the years of its existing DSIPCaS has turned into the center of Pridneprovsky region for training specialists in specializations 010201 “Physical Training”, 010202 “Sport” and 010203 “Human Health”.
      The system of specialists training based on the levels of educational qualification degrees has been implemented: “Bachelor”, “Specialist”, and “Master”.
      Material and technical basis of the institute includes 2 educational buildings, 10 specialized sport halls, track-and-field manage with artificial surface, one indoor swimming pool, one outdoor pool with 2 tanks 50x20 m and 25x20m, a football ground and track-and-field path with artificial surface, a rowing station, a laboratory and a computer laboratory (2 classrooms). The Institute hostel for 500 places.
      The total area of educational and sports buildings and facilities is 23026 m.
      For the years of its existing the institute has trained more than 5 thousand specialists. 20 students and graduates of the institute were awarded the rank “Honoured Master of Sports” for great sports achievements. Besides, the institute has more than 100 champions and prize winners of World and Europe Championships, and also All World Students Games in its credit. Among the students of first rank trained by the institute of higher education there are 120 Masters of Sports of International rank and 340 Masters of Sports. Key scientists of Ukraine and CIS deliver lectures in the institute, and the key coaches, teachers and methodists carry out the pedagogical and training practice in the institute.
      Pridneprovsky educational methodical complex of physical culture educational establishments is created on the base of DSIPCaS; Dneprodzerzhinskiy physical culture college and Regional physical culture college are included in it. The aim of this complex is the further improvement of physical culture staff training and professional development through integrated plans of staff training. For the last 3 years the specialists of the institute have introduced more than 150 scientific researches into the physical organizations activity.
      Scientists of the institute carry out the scientific and methodical support of regional combined sailing and Greco-Roman style teams, football teams (Paralympics national team of Ukraine), teams of major league in football “Dnipro” and basketball “Dnipro”.
      During the last years great attention has been paid to the computerization of the educational process.
      Holding the video and tele-lectures, round tables, video and text conferences contributes to the more intensive student-teacher interaction.
      The educational process is adequately supplied by necessary textbooks and training aids. Fund of the scientific library consists of more than 117 thousand items. The development and publishing of the special terms dictionaries, training aids, summary of lectures, methodical instructions, etc. in different disciplines in the Ukrainian language is organized.
      For the last 3 years more than 15 textbooks and training aids have been published. Among them such as: “Football”, “Problems of Professional Box Psychology”, “Physical Culture, Sport, Outlook”, “Medico-Biological Basis of Footballers` Training” and others.
      The Institute is publishing a scientific methodical magazine “Sport Visnyk of Pridneprov`ya” which is included into the list of scientific professional editions of Ukraine. This magazine accumulates contemporary world tendencies of physical culture and sport development.
      With the aim of material and technical basis of scientific researches improvement the laboratory of “Great Physical Loads in Sport” is created. On the basis of scientific laboratory researches in different kinds of sport are carried out. For the last years the institute has become the scientific methodical center of the South East Region.
      On the basis of the institute and under the direction of pro-rector on scientific researches, associate professor Moskalenko N.V. annual international, republican scientific practical conferences, and regional scientific practical seminars of different kinds of sports coaches are held.
      In DSIPCaS fundamental scientific researches are carried out according to the physical culture and sport scientific research composite plan on the following topics:
• “Physical culture, physical education of different population groups”;
• “Olympic and professional sport”;
      The researches on republican scientific practical topics are conducted on 6 approved topics:
• “Structural and functional systematization of physical culture education within the region”;
• “Philosophical and sociological aspects of personality who goes in for sports”;
• “The means an methods improvement of disabled children rehabilitation taking into account pathologies and psycho-emotional state”;
• “Scientific methodical approaches to the schoolchildren physical education system formation”;
• “Optimization of different qualification sportsmen training educational process”;
• “Improvement of special sportsmen motor skills while performing exercises of high-speed and power character”.
      In 1994 DSIPCaS enrolled disabled students for the first time. Since that time the higher educational establishment has trained lots of disabled sportsmen who represent Ukraine on the international sport arena with dignity. The best of them is Olena Akopian, she is Honoured Master of Sports, has three championship titles in the X-th Summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta(1996), champion and record breaker in swimming, she is honoured by President, and decorated with an order ”For Merits” of the Second Class.
      The teaching staff of the institute wishes our students-sportsmen successful performances on international sport arenas.
